Zone Conferences, Round 2!

Another big travel week to attend zone conferences and personal interviews: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Bilbao for all the missionaries in the north zones and then Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Tenerife for the missionaries on the Canary Islands. We splurged at the end of our Canarias trip by going to the kids’ favorite restaurant (so far) and buying one of every dessert they had available! As you can tell, Bryson was a big fan of the chocolate Sunday. I had what is called “the worst dessert on the island” which is a combination of chocolate, pineapple, custard and something else that I’m not quite sure about . . . Thankfully, it definitely wasn’t the worst dessert.

The missionaries that attended the conference in Bilbao are spread out over 18 cities stretching from Ferrol on the far northwest coast to San Sebastian in the northeast bordering Spain and then down through Pamplona and Burgos in the heart of Basque country.
They all love getting together to reconnect with old companions and meet the new missionaries. And, of course, eat and eat and eat. We found the starting five for our mission basketball team – average height 6’3″ . . .

In the islands, everything is just a tiny bit more laid back. We enjoyed celebrating October birthdays (including Aly, but more on that next week) and always try to be good stewards and take care of the buildings that the local congregations graciously share with us. We are especially grateful for the local members who take precious time and effort to provide meals for the missionaries – and yummy cupcakes!

Now it’s Sunday night and we’re headed back to Madrid to prepare for conferences there and a full week or school and other activities. Goodbye to the Canarias for another six weeks! The carousel keeps spinning round and round . . .
